ASHFORD CASTLE
County Mayo, Ireland
Open all year.
Set on the Northern shores of Lough Corrib amidst 350 acres of formal
gardens and beautiful forests, Ashford Castle dates back to the 13th
Century. Once the estate of Lord Ardilaun and the Guiness family,
it was transformed into a luxury hotel in 1939. Today many famous
guests visit Ashford for its serenity, elegance, and exclusiveness.
The accommodations are among the finest in Ireland. After dinner,
guests can be entertained in the famous Dungeon Bar with live traditional
Irish music, a harpist and pianist.
Ashford Castle offers a full range of activities from riding, golfing,
clay pigeon shooting, fishing, cruises on the Lough, and a health
centre equipped with a whirlpool, sauna, steam room, conservatory,
and gymnasium. Ashford also offers the unique experience of flying
and handling falcons at its on-site Falconry, one of just a few in
the world. Ashford's location is ideal for touring the northwest of
Ireland with the Kylemore Abbey, Connemara, Yeats Country, and Galway
nearby.
The Ashford Equestrian Center features the native Connemara and sturdy
Irish Hunter to take you on a scenic ride over 26 miles of forested
trails between two different lake shores. There are plenty of outdoor
jumps both man-made and natural to challenge even the most experienced
rider. However, for those with less riding experience, each trek begins
with a gentle introduction to the English style of riding. The Center
is equipped with a large indoor and outdoor arena as well as a cross-country
course. Additional instruction is also available. Off-season and Honeymoon
specials may be available, call now for information.
Castle/Equestrian Packages
(Additional riding available) non-riders
